Mauritius confirms week-end measures

Government Authorities have decided, as a precautionary measure, and in their progress to rapidly bring back normality and calm especially in the evenings, an overnight curfew across specific areas of the island effective Friday 16 October 2026 as from 10pm until 4.30am, Saturday 17 October and also Sunday 18 October both from 10pm to 4.30am.

Situation on the ground

  • The police and authorities have restored calm across the island.
  • No tourists or their holiday stays have been affected. Tourism related and normal activities are operational.
  • It is to be noted that the current curfew measures and situation across specific areas must not be confused with a lockdown, as it is a limited curfew to allow the authorities to fully restore calm in areas affected.

Travel and operations are normal

  • Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport will remain fully operational as per airport authorities during this period. Both inbound and outbound flights will be running as scheduled including after 10pm until the last scheduled evening flights.
  • Hotels, resorts and short-term rentals are open within the new specific overnight restrictions with focused assistance to our international guests.
  • Departing passengers on scheduled flights should proceed as normal to the airport for their flights (recommended at least 3 hours by airport authorities) ahead of their scheduled times of travel. Authorities have made special arrangements island-wide for departing and arriving passengers over this specific period of time.
  • At this point in time, there has been no major and immediate trend of cancellations from visitors of our main markets as Mauritius remains a favourite welcoming tropical destination known for its world-class facilities. The situation is nevertheless being very closely monitored through the Parent Ministry, MTPA and its stakeholders through regular exchange of information.

Support for visitors

The MTPA, together with the Ministry of Tourism, the national authorities, AHRIM, the Mauritius Police Force and our industry partners, is continuously monitoring the situation on the ground closely. A 24/7 visitor assistance email is available at: secretary@mtpa.mu

In line with our previous communiqué, we still advise visitors to avoid any public gatherings, follow guidance from their Hotel, Tour operator, DMC, Airlines, Property Manager for short-term rentals and rely on official communication channels for updates. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) will issue further updates as needed on its website www.mymauritius.travel and social media channels (LinkedIn and Facebook).

Mauritius has long been known for its hospitality, peace and the warmth of its people. This has not changed in these momentarily challenging times.
