In 1844, while under British rule, Mauritius became the third country in the world to be introduced to the sport of golf. Today, Mauritius boasts ten 18 hole and three 9 hole golf courses, each offering a unique golfing experience.

Gymkhana Golf Club is the oldest golf course in Mauritius and, according to records available at the war office, it was the 4th country club in the world where golf was played.

Another stunning location is Ile aux Cerfs golf course, which covers the southern half of the Ile aux Cerfs island, boasting naturally undulating topography, volcanic rock outcrops, lakes and gullies, and a variety of tropical trees and plants.

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius open is the only competition in the world to gather together the European, Asian and Sunshine tours during the same event. The 1 million Euros prize fund is the highest prize purse ever to be paid out for a golf tournament in Mauritius.
